It is looking around the world, at what is happening with starving people and violence, which makes me feel small and helpless sometimes. I can remember thinking about it ever since I was 15 years old, like Atlas, carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. I wrote poetry, listened to Joan Baez and wrote John Lennon’s words of “Imagine” on my notebooks.

Change: To alter; to make or become different; to replace with another. When we want a change its often for someone else. We want to change our spouse, our children, our co-workers, etc. Actually we can only change ourselves, and thats the hardest change to make.

I, like many of you reading this, have loved ones that are suffering from the disease of alcohol and drug addiction. We, who have recovered, would love nothing more than to see them discover and live the truth of recovery as we have. The reality for them is the same as it was for us. The reality is “it takes what it takes”. Just as it did for those who came before us it is true for those who will come after us. It takes what it takes.

Maybe its time to start asking ourselves, what is influencing me? I think most of us have accepted everything that makes of everyday living and life as normal. By that I mean TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines. I am primarily focusing on the news and talk shows, and the tabloids.
